Fixed Bridges

Looking to fill the gaps left by missing teeth? Fixed bridges offer a durable and non-removable solution to restore your smile. Let’s explore the details:

Understanding Fixed Bridges

A fixed bridge is a permanent dental appliance designed to replace missing teeth. There are various types of bridges available, and your dentist will collaborate with you to determine the most suitable option for your unique case.

The traditional bridge, crafted from porcelain fused to metal, remains the preferred choice for many. It comprises two crowns placed over anchoring teeth (abutment teeth), connected to artificial teeth (pontics) that fill the gap left by missing teeth.

Benefits of Fixed Bridges

Fixed bridges offer numerous advantages, including:

  • Filling spaces left by missing teeth
  • Maintaining facial shape
  • Preventing adjacent teeth from shifting
  • Restoring chewing and speaking ability
  • Enhancing your smile
  • Upgrading from removable partial dentures to a permanent dental appliance

The Fixed Bridge Procedure

Obtaining a fixed bridge typically involves two or more dental visits. During the initial visit, the anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of enamel to accommodate the crowns. Following this, an impression mold is created to fabricate the bridge at a dental laboratory.

A temporary bridge is fitted to protect the prepared teeth until the permanent bridge is ready. At the subsequent appointment, the permanent bridge is meticulously checked, adjusted, and cemented to ensure a proper fit. In some cases, temporary cement may be used initially to allow for adjustments before permanent cementation.

Post-Procedure Care

After receiving your fixed bridge, your dentist will provide you with care instructions to maintain its longevity. Consistent brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups are essential to preserve the integrity of your new permanent bridge.
