Porcelain Crowns (Caps)

A crown or cap serves as a protective covering that encloses the entire surface of a tooth, restoring it to its original shape and size. This treatment is employed to safeguard and fortify tooth structure that cannot be adequately restored with fillings or other types of restorations. While there are various types of crowns available, porcelain tooth-colored crowns stand out as the most popular choice. Renowned for their high durability, they offer longevity, although, like most dental restorations, they may require eventual replacement. Porcelain crowns are meticulously crafted to match the shape, size, and color of your natural teeth, thereby delivering a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing smile.

Reasons for Crowns

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings
  • Teeth requiring a root canal

What Does Getting a Crown Involve?

Typically, a crown procedure entails two appointments. During your initial visit, several highly accurate molds or impressions will be taken to create your custom crown. Additionally, a mold will be utilized to fabricate a temporary crown, which will be affixed to your tooth for approximately two weeks until your permanent crown is crafted by a dental laboratory. With the tooth numbed, the dentist will then prepare it by removing any decay and shaping the surface to accommodate the crown. Once these preparatory steps are completed, the temporary crown will be placed using temporary cement, and your bite will be assessed to ensure proper alignment.

At your second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed, the tooth cleaned, and your new crown meticulously placed to ensure optimal spacing and alignment. You will receive detailed care instructions and be encouraged to schedule regular dental visits to monitor the condition of your new crown.
